Maryland-based urban retailer Downtown Locker Room announced Monday it plans to expand into the Charlotte area this year. The 40-store chain plans to open three or four stores in the Charlotte market by year's end, said spokesman Jeff Bowden. Specific locations have not been disclosed. The chain operates stores between 3,500 and 4,000 square feet selling a combination of shoes, clothing and music. The chain, which estimates 2004 sales of $75 million, has experienced 184 percent growth in sales volume over the past five years
