Neiman's take on a SouthPark store: modern elegance

Ashley M. Gibson

Neiman Marcus officials say it's too early to talk about the design of their SouthPark store since construction hasn't yet begun, but the Charlotte Business Journal is pleased to present the first peek at what the store will look like.

"It's a little premature and construction is still out to bid," says Ginger Reeder, Neiman spokeswoman. "We are still in the design phase for the interior and exterior."

That's interesting, because the exterior plans have already been approved by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Planning Commission.

In July, SouthPark mall owner Simon Property Group announced the Dallas luxury retailer would be added to the mix. The department store will occupy 80,000 square feet and is slated to open in the fall of 2006.

The renderings submitted by New York-based Barteluce Architects & Associates show a modern building in brick, cream and white. "Everyone is excited about this store -- it is in a market we have looked at for a number of years," Reeder says. "It was the right time, the right space, and we think Neiman will be a great fit in Charlotte."
