adidas in New York

By STEPHANIE ROSENBLOOM

IN 1920 Adi Dassler made his first shoe - a simple canvas sneaker.

Eighty-five years later, Adidas, the company he fathered, is making sneakers with built-in microprocessors. On Saturday in SoHo it will open its largest retail store.

The 30,000-square-foot space (at top) will showcase all the company's technologically sophisticated gear, including its sneaker named 1 ($250), which uses not only a microprocessor but also a magnetic sensor and a motor to adjust the cushioning to the activity.

Equipment for a broad range of activities, including pursuits like fencing and boxing, will be for sale, as will Stella McCartney's sexy, perpetually sold-out sports line for women ($35 to $210).

For those who want to design their own sneakers, a custom service will be available ($140). Anna Kournikova, Laila Ali and other athletes are scheduled to sign autographs on Saturday from noon to 1 p.m. At 610 Broadway, (212) 529-0081.
