Target To Open 600 Stores in the Next Five Years
Minneapolis - (chainstoreage.com) - Target Corp. executives today said the company expects to add more than 600 stores within the next five years, bringing its total store count to about 2,000 stores.
At the company’s annual meeting, president Gregg Steinhafel told shareholders that about a quarter of the new stores would be SuperTarget stores. He added that the company had no immediate plans to expand outside the United States.
Target currently operates 1,331 stores, including 141 SuperTarget stores that include grocery stores.
Among U.S. discount retailers, Target is second only to Wal-Mart, which has 3,719 U.S. stores.
