the late, great Eastwood Mall

Russell Wells' Eastwood Mall tribute site 1/8/04

Just as I've started LiveMalls and Brian Florence and Peter Eaglefeather started deadmalls DOT com, more people than ever are paying tribute to malls on the internet. Russell Wells of Savannah, Georgia has devoted a large amount of webspace to the soon-to-be-demolished Eastwood Mall in Birmingham, Alabama, a place he visited and loved as a child.

The story of Eastwood is long and glorious: starting from the dreams of a drive-in theater magnate to its opening in 1960 as the Southeast's first enclosed shopping center to its glory years as a major shopping attraction in the Birmingham area to its eventual fall from grace due to increased competition and neighborhood changes.

Packed with insight, information, and offbeat humor from the webmaster, this is a must-see site.
