The details of your incompetence do not interest me.

I went to see The Devil Wears Prada this weekend, which is such a chick flick, but I liked it too.

It's based on a 2003 novel by Lauren Weisberger about a young woman who, fresh from college, gets a job working as a personal assistant to a powerful fashion magazine editor that turns increasingly hellish as she struggles to keep up with her boss's capricious and demeaning requests.

Meryl Streep nailed her performance as an Anna Wintour-one-off and the rest of the cast did very well with what material they had.

I didn't think the moral ending was particularly correct (the badly dressed can be jerks too) but I suppose it was necessary to give the movie a tidy end.

  1. Have you read the book??

The book was aw-ful, and I'm really happy the movie was only loosely based on the book because it was much better. Lauren Weisberger had a nice story line, but no literay ammo to back it up with.

  2. I saw a paperback version at Wal-Mart the other night for $5.97, and I'll probably get that next time I got out there, but I went into the movie without reading the book. After hearing the book reviews i'm glad I did.

Still, there's nothing wrong with a little bad prose. It felt like a soap opera, and it kind of was in a way. At least Ms. Weisberger wasn't delusional enough to think this was serious literature. ;-)

  4. Heather: From what I hear, the book isn't exactly a hard read. A little fluff is never a horrible thing. ;-)

Anonymous: I would hate a professor like that, but if she had a reason for her perfectionist ways, I could probably respect that.
