my thoughts (kinda dull)

Hello again. The passive blogging continues.

In contrast to my usual (these days) dead feeling this time of night, I’m actually feeling pretty good, despite the fact that I have a cold. The ups and downs of the temperature gauge are to blame. It’s hot as hell outside, and then I go into cold air conditioning. It’s the perfect storm for the sniffles, and do I ever have them.

Work has been okay lately. Not great, but okay. I can’t go into a lot of detail about what’s going on because some of it is fairly sensitive municipal information, and I never know who’s reading this blog, so I’ll say that every day is an adventure, filled with drama and oddities that could fill a book.

We had a sales tax holiday this weekend in Virginia, and also in neighboring states. I ended up at two malls and a Wal-Mart and all of them were packed with bargain hunters. Thing is, there weren’t that many bargains. The better discounts were generally last week and the sales tax savings was negligible in Virginia, plus most of the stuff I bought was not included in the holiday. It was a wash.

I’m kind of upset about the Macy-fying of Hecht’s Hanes Mall. I won’t bore you with the entire saga of how this store was downgraded when it changed from Thalhimers to Hecht’s back in the day, but I will say that Federated is ripping what soul that’s left out of the place. The latest casualties are the upstairs showcases at the mall entrance and the Polo department, both of which have been stripped to practically nothing aesthetically. Combine this with the walling off of part of the third floor’s failed mattress and rug department, and you’ve got a formerly good store being rendered bland and boring.

One of these days I’m going to get around to cleaning up my inbox. As always, I have the best friends in the world and they’re always writing to see how I am, but I don’t have much time to write back. I’m constantly working on that, but sometimes it’s still slower than I like.

Until next time...

  1. that's because your virgo arse demands that all reciprocated emails be flawless.

I die every time I read that we're all neat freaks. perfectionists? yes. fastidious? puhh-lease. organized? i think this is based on an arcane, tribal village model. modern virgos have too much shit to stay on top of...........

glad to hear your voice posting. funny how paranoid you become about blogging when the big-whigs enter the picture.........

either way, I miss you. glad productivity is to blame and not an unheeded suicide note..........

  2. I hope you get past this cold soon. Aren't they a pain in the arse (especially in the summer)?

I was out of town last week and didn't have a chance to mention why on my blog. I'll do a Random Randomness sometime this week b/c I'll be heading out of town again this weekend.

It's always good to read what is new with you!

  3. Concerning your cold.... my wife has a "summer cold" right now and a Romanian friend told us there is an old saying here that says, "Anyone can catch a cold in the winter, but you must be smart to catch one in the summer." So, there you go.

  4. Heather: It's not as much fear as it is uneasiness. There is a bizarre web of 'tell' and 'don't tell' in govenment with the latter often hiding in the shadows waiting to ream you if the wrong thing gets out. I'll explain further off the blog.

Kris; Glad to hear somebody cares. I know we used to key each other in long-form about our lives. I wish I still had time to do that on a regular basis :-(

Looking forward to the 'randomness' when it appears.

Todd: The Romanians may be on to something there (sniffle, sniffle)
