TEXANS INVADING EDINA?

Chris Serres, David Phelps

There's no deal yet, but word on the street is that Neiman Marcus is coming to Edina, Minnesota's Southdale Center.

The glitzy Dallas-based department store chain has expressed interest in leasing 180,000 square feet left vacant by Mervyn's, which pulled out of the mall in August, according to a source close to the discussions.

Southdale is said to be excited about Neiman Marcus because it would attract the sort of upscale, sophisticated shopper who increasingly is opting for the Galleria shopping center across the street from the mall.

The Neiman Marcus store on Nicollet Mall in downtown Minneapolis sells $3,000 Gucci purses and custom-made men's suits that go as high as $15,000.

Neiman Marcus did not return repeated calls Friday seeking comment
