An 800,000 square foot open-air mall much like the Friendly Center is in the works for Southeast Greensboro.

Greensboro, NC -- A proposed 800,000 square foot shopping center in Southeast Greensboro is the latest possible addition to the growth along the new I-85 bypass.

Developers plan to build the mall, which will be called Britt Way Commons, on about 115 acres along I-85 between South Elm-Eugene Street and Pleasant Garden Road.

Some people who live in the area say they're excited about the recent growth, which includes a Super Wal-Mart, Lowe's Home Improvements and a Cracker Barrel.

"Of course it's going to increase the house value which is a wonderful thing," says homeowner David Callands. "So a lot of people are staying for the long haul now, whereas some people were iffy."

Some other homeowners expressed concern about the increased traffic.

The developers of the proposed mall, Granite Development LLC, did not return calls to confirm which stores might be going in the mall or when it might be open.

  1. This if great if your a mall-goer, like you, but I see this as unwanted sprawl. Hopefully it wont get bad, and congrats to G-boro.

  2. I'm reserving my opinon on this new mall until I can find out more information.

There is already a nmew mall going up in Burlington not far from this mall's site. It may be overkill to build it until the rooftops build up a bit more.
