Dollywood: July 29, 2006

Dolly Parton, if you read this blog, thanks for helping create such a wonderful theme park.

I didn’t go into my weekend trip with any expectations about how it would be. I’ve been to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, before, and it was pretty nice, though not impressive. I didn’t get a chance to check out Dollywood previously and hadn’t really though that much about it. I actually regretting committing my Saturday to going at first because I figured it wouldn’t be my speed at all.

I was wrong.

Dollywood has its fair share of hokeyness like most theme parks, and if you go expecting thrill-a-minute rides or historical accuracy, you won’t be bowled over. But the total presentation was sophisticated, fun and surprisingly, authentically friendly. I’ve never been so impressed with a theme park.

Check out what I saw at Dollywood

  1. Very nice. I had never considered going there but the pictures make it seem quite inviting.

They should pay you a commission.

  2. Looks like a fun place to visit...I'll have to check it out (someday). That's the beauty of blogs, get to hear about things that are outside your normal sphere of influence.

  3. D: I'm happy to share what I saw with you guys. Dollywood is truly a special place.

I'm not sure what it is about Dolly that touches people, but it's very real. You can feel it in everybody you meet there.

Chris: This place is kind of out of my normal sphere, too. I'm not a theme park type of person, and before I went to Pigeon Forge for myself, I thought it would have been too hokey for me.

It gives me a lot of joy sharing my trips with y'all. It seems like my non-internet friends drop in and out sometimes, but there's always somebody online.

God, I sound like a total geek :-)

  4. Its been a while since I have been to Dollywood. Its always fun, and they are not dead set on bankrupting you like most theme parks.

  5. It's expensive enough, but I've definately seen worse, like the movie theater :-)

  6. Nice pictures. Glad you had a good time.

  7. I'm glad I did too. It was a good change.
