Pepsico is going after teen mall rats with a lounge concept very similar to something Coca-Cola tried two years ago. Pepsi is opening three Pepsi-themed mall lounges, where kids can play Xbox video games, watch videos, hang out and, of course, buy Pepsi products from vending machines.
The first lounges will be in Florida, California and Illinois.
In 2003, Coke opened two lounges — called Coca-Cola Red Lounges — in malls in California and Illinois. In the lounges, teens can watch videos, sit on sofas and buy Coke products. Though Coke hasn't expanded the concept since opening the original lounges, a spokeswoman said the company is gathering research and may add more down the road.
Just a thought provoked by the use of the word "Mallrats" in this article...I'm gonna guess that you really really like that Kevin Smith movie Mallrats. That is one damn fine flick!
ReplyDeleteHeven't seen that one, believe it or not. I keep meaning to.
ReplyDeleteI'm a big fan of Kevin Smith's "Jersey" movie series, though, especially "Clerks." That one still has me rolling on the floor laughing.
