nordstrom and jeffery get together

Chain Store Age

Seattle - Nordstrom has announced two high-fashion moves. It is buying luxury specialty retailer Jeffrey in a deal reported to cost in excess of $50 million and has hired Jeffrey’s founder, Jeffrey Kalinsky, as Nordstrom’s director of designer merchandising.

Kalinsky will continue to operate his two namesake stores—one in Atlanta and the other in New York—as president and CEO.

Jeffrey stores did about $35 million in sales last year, according to Nordstrom.

  1. Oh, this is so funny! I thought about you when this was announced on the front page of the business section of today's P.I. I also thought of my brother, who went to H.S. with one of the (many) Nordstroms. The local spin was, well, kind of local in its orientation... maybe I'll see if I can link it. You might find that amusing

  3. It is amusing. Thanks for finding it.

I don't know much about Jeffery Kalinsky or his stores (other than being loosely parodied in a "Saturday Night Live" sketch), but I do know his father's Bob Ellis stores reasonably well. If he's half the merchant his father is, he'll be a great fit for Nordstrom.
