big box reuse
Julia Christensen, who is an artist, became interested in the creative re-use of abandonded big box stores after a former Wal-Mart in her hometown became a municipal court. She has spent time driving around the country to see big boxes that have been transformed into schools, churches, go-cart tracks, and many other things and has posted her pictures to this Web site. She is struck by how local communities are able to "take back" the cast-off buildings of national retailers in order to make them places for social interaction as opposed to mere consumerism.
