$933,000 single-wide

Netscape.com

You think houses cost a lot where you live! In London, there is a townhouse that is selling for US$933,000 that measures just over 5 feet wide at its narrowest and 9 feet-11 inches at its widest, reports The Associated Press. Best of all, it's painted black.

What the skinny house lacks in width, it makes up for in height with five levels of living space. It wasn't always a house. Before families lived here, it was used as a hat shop. Leave it to real estate agents to put a positive spin on what must seem like a doll house. Winkworths, the listing company, describes it in its promotional materials as being "utterly amazing and almost certainly unique." Well, that's one way to put it.

How narrow is this thing? In the bathroom, a medium-sized tub takes up the entire length of the room. It also has a very narrow kitchen, dining area, reception room, three bedrooms, a shower room, dressing room, patio, small garden and a roof terrace. It even offers panoramic views of the city.

The house is located in the Shepherds Bush neighborhood of west London, an area that is popular with media professionals since it's near the British Broadcasting Corp.'s headquarters, notes AP.

  1. Now you know what a horrific state my search for the perfect condemned Victorian in Pittsburgh puts me in. Thank god for the fainting room: I can't imagine how I might otherwise carry on.........

  2. I think I would faint from claustrophobia in that "house"!

Shepherds Bush, London was the old stomping ground of the WHO, so thats kind of cool.

  3. Heather: That house would make me faint, too. I can't believe it passed building code.

Ken: Did no know that about Shepherdss Bush. You'd have to be doing as many drugs as The Who were back in the day to pay a million bucks for that place
