This is the first article of the New Year. It’s on grocery sections in discount stores. I meant to have this scanned and sent on the day of publication but I haven’t been home nights for the last three days.
I see the mis-use of the word "complimentary" made it past your editor =) I highly doubt Wal*Mart gives away free food (well, I guess it's practically free given the crappy margins on grocery product). Pun intended??
Nice article! I have high hopes for Target's future in the grocery industry...they just need to figure out how to turn a profit on the stuff.
Another friend of mine noticed I used the term "for cheaper." Needless to say my grammar and word usage suffers if I'm writing quick articles like that.
Target needs a little focus. The frequent out-of-stocks at our local stores grocery section show that people are responding to the concept, but it also shows that inventory management isn't what it should be for the department.
Well, it would have been right had he used Complementary instead of Complimentary...but I've seen Walmarts offer both.
They do offer complementary merchandise up front...or er..junk, that sort of completes one's shopping experience by reminding you that you need a tiny bottle of purel or that you are hungry for those beef jerky treats, or you need a diet coke.
I've also seen complimentary food at my walmart as we have shopped the grocery section.
:D
Also, we have 3 large freezers (front and back would count 6 actually) that make up three aisles @ my walmart. While I cannot buy everything at walmart I need grocery wise, I can get most everything. What I cannot get there, I can get from Sams and one visit to Food Lion or Harris Teeter.
Im not as fond of KMart's grocery area, and I really do not like Target's. I rarely go to Dollar General, but do find it interesting to visit there and look through the food. I also find it interesting to look at what Big Lots has to offer as well (though they were not on your article)
I love the idea of the Super Walmart. When my kids were babies and I needed to do my weekly shopping, it was hard to make it to the two or three places I needed to go in order to buy things at Walmart and a Grocery Store. Unfortunately the whole super store thing didnt come along until my kids were well out of diapers and had put down the bottle. What a great thing It would have been to be able to do my drug store shopping, Walmart shopping and my grocery shopping in one stop...I was good to shop as long as no one started to cry. :) (and that could have included me on those days long ago LOL)
Good Article there...glad to see the freelance work continuing in the new year.
Thanks for "having my back," Muddy. I appreciate it.
Hypermarkets are a great thing, and they're very popular all over the world. They're perfect for the time-starved, like young mothers, and other busy people who don't have time to
The smart thing that Metro, Carrefour and Tesco and all the rest do is they don't try to sataurate their markets with superstores, like Wal-Mart is doing. Too much is too much, especailly if they're not going to do it well.
