the power of Operation McFly

Al Cabino shakes up the industry by thinking outside the shoebox.

My friend Al Cabino's efforts to encourage Nike to release replicas of the sneakers worn by Michael J. Fox in Back to the Future Part II continue to gather media attention. Al was recently named a 2006 Noisemaker by the Montreal Mirror (Canada's version of the Village Voice) and has been contacted by several major media outlets including Business Week and The Washington Post - the latter, in vestigial Woodwardian fashion, pushing extra hard to find out if Cabino isnÂ’t simply a deep-cover guerrilla marketer for Nike.

He isn't a guerrilla marketer of course. Al Cabino is simply the self-described "Pioneer of Sneaker Activism," and all of us sneakerheads owe him a debt of gratitude.

  1. I heard on the radio the other morning that they are going to re-make Back to the Future part 1, with Michael J. Fox playing the professor. I wonder who they'll cast as Marty McFly....

  2. I'm not sure. Tobey Maguire looks young enough to pull it off, but it would be a stretch. I've never seen him in a comedy.

It will probably be a major teen star of some sort.
