a quick tip for the shoe-obsessed

Are you tired of looking through every box in your closet trying to find your favorite pair of shoes? Try this easy tip.

Take pictures of your shoes and print them out on sticky-back paper. Cut out your prints and paste them to the front of your shoe boxes. I tried when I came home last night, and it seems to work very well so far.

  1. I prefer the "rifle-through-the-pile" method myself. Is it necessary to keep the shoes in the boxes, because they make these really space efficient hanging thingies for the closet that work wonders!

  2. I do tend to rifle through the pile of "everyday shoes," but most of the ones I like to keep in good shape are either in the original boxes or are in clear boxes I get from The Container Store.

The typical shoe closet accessories work better on women's shoes than men's. I'm tempted to get an overdoor hanger with the pouches, but they tend to work better for smaller shoes than my 13s. Same thing with the cubbyhole-type stands. I had one and gave it to Mom because the holes were so small that I could only fit half the stated capacity in there, and that was even less efficient than the boxes it was intended to replace.
